2012 PSA Youth Showcase

Goal
|
The goal of the PSA Youth Showcase is to involve the Society, its Chapters, Clubs, Councils, and PSA members in the promotion and education of photography among young people, especially within the Society’s area of influence by highlighting outstanding photographs from high school age students in public and private schools, 4H Clubs, and from home schooled individuals. Entries are limited to eleven entries, 6 prints and 5 digital images, from any one school.

Participation
|
All PSA chapters, PSA member camera clubs, and PSA member camera club councils participating in annual selection of youth photographs with schools and 4H groups are invited to submit entries. Only entries submitted by designated representatives of each PSA chapter, member club, or member council will be accepted.

Student
Eligibility
|
This contest is open to all students or 4H members worldwide whose ages are 13 through 18 and
ATTENDING
high school or its equivalent. This is an excellent opportunity for those eligible students to share their work across all boundaries and receive recognition for their efforts.

Calendar
|
All entries must be received by the Youth Showcase Director not later than
April 30, 2012.
|

PSA
Sponsorship
|
All PSA Camera Clubs, Chapters and Councils are encouraged to serve as sponsors for the Youth Showcase. There are no limits on the number of high schools that may be sponsored by an organization. However, there may be no more than 11 entries from any high school, one for each of the 5 digital categories and 6 entries in prints (2 allowed in Choice Category).

Awards
|
1. A “Best of Show - Print” or "Best of Show - Digital" plaque, a $350.00 cash award and a PSA Youth Membership will go to the top image in each section..
2. A $175.00 cash award and a PSA Youth Membership will go to the other four top category images in each section.
3. A $50.00 cash award to the 1st Honorable Mention in each category for both prints and digital sections.
4. A $25.00 cash award to the other Honorable Mentions in each category for both prints and digital sections.
5. The top five prints and top five digital images, along with each maker’s photo and biography, will included be in the September, 2012 issue of the
PSA JOURNAL.
6. The top five prints and digital images in each category will be displayed on PSA’s Web Page.
7. The five runner-up prints and digital images in each category will be displayed on PSA's Web Page.
8. The next five 25% or so prints will be exhibited at the 2012 San Francisco PSA Conference.
9. The next five 25% or so digital images will be shown along with the prints at a Youth Showcase program at the conference. All students with accepted images will receive a certificate of participation.

Categories
|
The 5 categories for the prints and the digital images are the same. They are:
(1) Architecture
(2) People and/or Animals
(3) Scapes
(4) Photojournalism
(5) Photographer's Choice or Creative.

Print
Entries
|
Each participating chapter, club, or council may select, from each high school or youth organization, six 5” X 7” up to 9” X 12” unmounted photographs or digital prints, two entries in the Photographer’s Choice category and one each for the four remaining categories listed above, in either black and white or color.
A participating PSA chapter, club, or council can work with any number of schools or youth organizations, i.e. high school class and 4H Club. Two participating PSA groups cannot receive separate entries from the same school or organization.

Digital
Entries
|
Each participating chapter, club, or council may select, from each high school or youth organization, five digital images, no greater than 1024 pixels wide and 768 pixels high; one from each category listed above, in either black and white or color.
A participating PSA chapter, club, or council can work with any number of schools or youth organizations, i.e. high school class and 4H Club. Two participating PSA groups cannot receive separate entries from the same school or organization.
It is best and more convenient to store
a copy
of the images to be sumitted into a single folder, preferably on the main drive, before getting started.
